Swim Team - Summer
Forest Park Swim Team is a recreational swim team for children ages 3 to 18. Our season runs from beginning of April and culminates with Contra Costa County Championship Meet that usually occurs the first weekend of August.
The primary goal of FPST as a recreaonal swim team is for all swimmers to have fun. In addition to this goal, the coaches and swim team board will work to foster participation, develop good sportsmanship, team spirit, a good self-image, and above all, to help all swimmers improve both their skills and their times throughout the season in a friendly recreational swimming environment. FPST will also promote a sense of community that will endure beyond the swim season.
Mini-Flyers - Summer
Mini-Flyers is designed for the sole purpose of preparing young children and new swimmers to advance to the swim team. Mini-Flyer coaches will work with up to 3 children at a me. All potential Mini-Flyers will need to attend a tryout before the season starts.
Mini-Flyers typically do not swim in meets unless the Coaches feel they are ready to do so. All Mini-Flyers will be invited to swim in the last home meet of the season so they can get the feel of what a meet is like. If a Mini-Flyer starts to regularly swim in meets, job requirements do not need to be fulfilled unless participating in an invitational meet. For invitationals meets including City Meet, Mini-Flyer parent(s) must perform one job. Mini-Flyer dues are the same and they participate in all of the same activities as the rest of the Swim Team except for the following:
- Mini-Flyers are not required (but encouraged!) to Fundraise.
- Mini-Flyers are not required to fulfill job requirements even if they transition during the season to the Swim Team. The only exception is when participating in an invitational meet. All parents are required to help fulfill jobs for invitational meets.
- Mini-Flyers will not be assigned buddies unless they join the swim team.
Off-Season Clinics
Some children want to extend their season, but are not quite ready to make the jump to a year-round competitive swim team. That's where the clinics come in. They offer a chance for swimmers to keep in shape, or to focus on particular skills. Clinics may offer 2, 3, or 4 day options which makes them excellent supplement to other sports and activities.
Please note that there are no clinics in the month of January or February. This is not an oversight. To retain eligibility to participate in the Contra Costa Championship Meet, the team, and the swimmers must have no organizing swimming for those two months. See these guidelines for more on the limits of organized swim activity in the offseason.
Spring Clinic
The Spring Clinic helps swimmers get ready for the season. It usually lasts for four weeks in March, right before the start of the regular swim season. Unlike a regular swim season, the practices are shorter and focused exclusively on technique. There are no swim meets during the Spring Clinic. In 2025, the spring clinic will run from March 3 to April 3.
Fall Clinic
The Fall Clinic functions as an extension of the season. The Fall Clinic usually starts in early September and runs through the middle of December. It is split into one or two-month sessions, for which there is independent registration. There may be one to three swim meets during the Fall Clinic, and these meets offer a swimmer a unique possibility to sign up for a larger distance event than their usual summer age group allows. A Fall Clinic, especially the first session with its still-good weather, allows families a low cost opportunity to try out the swim team and the swim life with minimum commitment.
Private Lessons
In addition to the group swim practices, our coaches offer individual swimming lessons. For a fee, you can get personal and individual instruction at the pool. Swim lessons are a complement to swim practice, not a substitute. Swim lessons allow swimmers to expand upon and receive more specific and individual instruction. Practices provide for both technique and endurance training, while lessons are designed for individual swim technique training.
